The Chess Dawgs provide a relaxed and convenient environment for UGA students to engage in friendly and competitive chess play.
The Chess Dawgs meet in the Tate Center every Monday and Wednesday from 7:00-10:00pm to enjoy the great game of chess in a social environment. The boards are provided, and there are usually players of all skill types. Some come just to play chess, while others come for the friendly atmosphere and conversation. These meetings offer a great opportunity to meet new friends, have a great time, and relax from a stressful day of schoolwork.
The Chess Dawgs Host their own tournament every semester. Congratulations to Richard Francisco and Josh DuMont, the winner and runner-up, respectively, of the Spring '08 chairty tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society. Pictured above is the Fall '07 Chess Tournament which was held in the Tate Gallery on November 4th.
The Chess Dawgs took second place in the 2008 Georgia Collegiate Team Chess Championship. The championship, held by the Georgia Chess Association at Emory University, is held once a year to determine the superior team in the state of Georgia. The Chess Dawgs competed against both Georgia Tech and Emory, and were undefeated throughout the tournament. The team received a trophy for being runner-up.
